Do you have the look?

First things first, it’s important to do some research on the modelling industry to ensure you have the right look to become a model in Australia. What are your best features? Eyes, smile, legs? Whatever it is, try drawing attention to that feature by wearing accentuating makeup or flattering clothes. It’s also important to look and feel your absolute best by maintaining a healthy diet, exercise and overall attitude towards yourself and others.

Build a portfolio

Head to a studio or hire a professional photographer to take some photos of you in a range of different outfits and settings, and doing a variety of poses. Your portfolio is essentially your resume, showcasing your best angles and features, and your versatility to potential clients. These images can also be used for your comp card, which is like a business card. Leave it with an agency after a casting so they won’t forget you.

Choose the right location

Modelling is much easier to pursue in Australia’s capital cities, particularly Melbourne and Sydney, because there is a thriving fashion and beauty industry compared to regional areas of Australia. Most modelling agencies are based in Australia’s capital cities, therefore it may be necessary to move to one of these cities to become a model in Australia.

Have a strong social media presence

Having a strong following on Instagram and posting content which showcases your personality can significantly increase your chances of getting signed as a professional model. Market yourself to potential employers by posting flattering images in a range of different poses and outfits. Sometimes people can get scouted and become a model in Australia through Instagram.
