Model Success Story | Alannah Griffiths

Agency: Vivien’s

Alannah was first signed to Vivien’s around the age of 13 to become a child model.

“Initially I had applied to most of the agencies in Sydney and had a few interviews and meetings lined up before being contacted by Vivien’s. Because I was quite young then, they wanted wait until I was a little older to officially sign me. So after around a year, they decided I was both old enough and mature enough to enter the modelling world and they signed me.”

Alannah’s mum admits that she initially was very apprehensive about her daughter wanting to be involved in the modelling industry.

“At the time, I had only heard about the negatives of the industry from the media and was concerned about exposing her to the world that has so many social issues. But in the end I supported her wish to give it a try and in typical Alannah fashion, when she sets her mind to something she is usually successful. I believe Alannah was very lucky to have found Viviens and to have such a supportive environment and a structured development plan, while also making sure that school comes first and that their development models are educated and knowledgeable around health and well being.”

Alannah started out by booking a photo shoot at The Photo Studio, which her mum says acted as a testing ground.

“We booked the photo shoot to see how Alannah would behave in front of the camera. Was she comfortable and confident? Was a photo and make up shoot a positive experience and something to pursue? The staff were also really helful in consulting us when choosing which photos to include in her portfolio, correct poses, colours etc. The actual photos were then used to send across to the various agencies. Once she was signed, the photos in the The Photo Studio portfolio were used by the agency in her professional portfolio.”

Alannah’s favourite part about modelling is the different people she gets to meet and discovering all the work that is put behind the scenes of a photo shoot or a campaign.

“I also love the fashion side of modelling and wearing really extravagant things or seeing other people wear them, it has really sparked my love for design and the fashion industry.”

Alannah is aware of her young age and wants to make sure she has as much fun as possible before she sets any goals for the future.

“I’m still in development in terms of my modelling career, so I really focus on enjoying myself first. I think that if I set too many goals that I may be let down or disappointed with myself, as the industry and work is so unreliable most of the time. But when I do turn 18 and graduate high school, I’d love to travel and model overseas for maybe a few months, I believe that would be a really unique experience for me.”

Alannah admits that the modelling industry can be daunting at times and she’s been exposed to a whole new world that a lot of people her age couldn’t say they have.

“I’m lucky in the sense that being in such competitive environment made me a lot more resilient and mature. But also because of my young age, I’m quite protected by my agency along with other girls in development from a lot of the harsh realities and competitive nature of the modelling industry which I’m so grateful for.”

Alannah’s mum agrees that the industry has been very supportive so far and advises other parents who’s children want to enter the modelling world to always make sure the experience is a positive one for their child and that they have fun first and foremost.

“The jobs Alannah has been part of, have taught her invaluable life skills, such as resilience, dealing with an assortment of personalities, commitment and responsibility. I always advise other parents is to make sure that modelling is  what the child wants and it’s driven by him or her. It’s also important to find an agency that aligns to your beliefs and works in partnership with your child and family.”
