With a lifelong passion for dance, Junior Dance Teacher Gabi Millen has dedicated much of her life to the art. Coming into The Photo Studio Australia, Gabi wanted to create a photo shoot that simply expressed who she was as a dancer and as a person.
“For my shoot there wasn’t a story as such, it more self-exploration. My studio stylist helped out with bringing my ideas to the next level and I really just wanted the photos to reflect me.” Says Gabi.
Embedded in her story is an air of minimalism and simplicity, with shots focused on her poses and form. For Gabi, her style is much the same way. “Style to me is a very personal thing and would describe mine as simple, classic and comfortable,” says Gabi, “Being a dancer, I spend most of my days in activewear so keeping it simple and comfortable is key.”
Her dance background has had a big an influence on her life, with Gabi stating her peers and dance teachers became some of her biggest creative inspirations.
“Growing up with dance, I was very fortunate to have some amazing role models. My dance teachers in particular were always so creative in the way they designed costumes for performances, trying to capture the essences of the characters we were portraying on stage.”
“They always had a clear vision of what they wanted and it was always so amazing to see lots of pieces of material and packets of embellishments form something so amazing as an end product.”
Just as her dance teachers had very clear ideas and concepts, so does Gabi. She hopes people see her photos for the beautiful simplistic shots they are.
“I hope people like my photos and ultimately see them for what they are, simple and real.”
