The gorgeous Pheroza came into our Fitzroy studio last month. She brought to set her striking face and beautiful physique, but also a powerful and motivated attitude. Pheroza is a strong, independent woman that hopes that she will be able to use her portfolio to further her modelling career. Pheroza has big plans and we hope to see her side by side with her idol Bella Hadid one day soon.

What made you choose to come into the studio?

An ad on Google prompted me to make contact. I’ve wanted to get into modelling for quite a while and thought it’d be worth a shot discussing possibilities with the studio.

Who is your role model and why?

I’ve always been drawn to strong women of colour. I’m grateful, particularly to Rihanna, who I think has changed the game in terms of how we view sexual women. Shirley Manson recently said; “to me, she feels completely equal with a male counterpart on a sexual level. She’s not being coy, she’s not playing power games, she’s not titillating and she’s not using her feminine wiles in a dangerous, dishonest way.” Anna Wintour declared Rihanna as evidence that “incredible style can help take a talented young woman from a small island to the world stage, and along the way spark a lot of conversation about elegance and empowerment.”

Understanding the way that the media enforces hegemonic white beauty through fashion is something that I’m motivated to deconstruct. We live in a world where that type of digital influence that hasn’t gone unnoticed, as social media continues to break down the boundaries between high fashion and popular culture.

I also credit my mum’s feminist upbringing to my strength and pride in my Indian background.

How did you come up with the styling for your shoot?

Making moodboards on Pinterest makes it incredibly easy to brainstorm. 90s minimalism and early Kate Moss Calvin Klein ads influenced my first look with the tube top and jeans. The simplicity of the look topped with my Indian choker made it seem more me as apposed to copying the entirety of the look.

We (James, Kelly and I) flipped through the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, which showed Bella Hadid slouching on two chairs which we both agreed looked really cool.

The AW16 Fenty x Puma collection showed Rihanna’s take on gothic, Japanese-inspired subversive streetwear. This combined with 90s Versace influenced my look with the chunky platforms and coat (I think you can tell by now 90’s fashion is a reoccurring theme).

Have you since used this portfolio within the modeling industry?

So far I’ve uploaded the images onto my instagram @Pheo505 and shown fellow creatives in order to get some collaborations going. I’ve got some big plans in store so definitely keep your eyes peeled ;)

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Honestly; I’d love to have a place in Melbourne. Preferably a townhouse somewhere in Brunswick with a little courtyard for my cat. I’m used to not staying in one place for long and am lucky enough to also call India my home, which I try to visit every 1-2 years. I love traveling to new places whenever I get the chance, so it would be nice to have a cosy place to come home to that’s close to my family and friends.
