10 Easy Model Poses

Striking the right pose is vital in creating a great photo-shoot. The perfect model pose tends to differ across different types of shoots, however, being confident and having a strong delivery is always key. Having a basic understanding of your best angles will help ensure that your final images reach their full potential. In this video, Melbourne model Tess Shanahan shows us 10 easy modeling poses that beginners (or even seasoned professionals!) can practice with.

Keep Your Body Moving!

Throughout this shoot, Tess makes sure that she is always switching up her model poses and keeping her movements fluid. It doesn’t need to be a dramatic change, even the slightest shift can make a huge difference. Just a bend of the knee, or a hand behind the head is enough to make sure that the director of the shoot has a good variety of shots to choose from. The great thing about modelling is that every person already has a litany of resources to use at their disposal, so make sure you’re always showing off what your body can do!

Utilize Everything You Have to Get the Perfect Shot.

Keeping movement in mind, it’s important to remember to utilize your entire body to get the perfect shot. Positioning your limbs correctly, elongating your neck and making sure that you’re holding your posture as straight as possible is all essential to looking your best on camera.

Put Your Best Face Forward.

Just as important as your body, is your face! Make sure to always keep your facial expressions in check and tailor them to suit the type of shoot. For commercial purposes, a happy, smiling face would be perceived well by the photographer. Alternatively, editorial shoots call for more demure, serious expressions. Having the right look on your face can make a world of difference, so try to always be conscious of what your face is doing.

Confidence is Key.

If you’re not feeling comfortable, this will likely be translated on camera. It’s natural to feel nervous on a shoot, especially for a beginner. However, this can be avoided by making sure that your posture is always straight, your chin is tilted upwards and your face is always relaxed. This can be tricky at first, so practicing your poses at home beforehand can really help you get that air of self-confidence that people love to see on set. If you feel your best, you look your best!
