9 Multicultural Newcomers to Victoria’s Secret

From humble beginnings in the mid 90’s, Victoria’s Secret is a lingerie brand that has blossomed into the most talked about fashion show of the year.

 This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show is the most diverse yet. Over fifty percent of the cast are a mixture of Asian, Latino and women of colour. It’s exciting to see diversity appearing within the modelling industry and being present on the runway. Here is the break down of multicultural newcomers who will be walking their first Victoria’s Secret runway.

1. Estelle Chen

Age: 20 years old.

From: France with Chinese decent.

Facts: The Victoria’s Secret runway should be a breeze for Chen, as she is no stranger to the catwalk. She’s walked for major fashion houses Dolce and Gabbana, Diesel, Louis Vuitton and Elie Saab. She’s also scored advertising campaigns with Vera Wang.

2. Alecia Morais

Age: 20 years old.

From: Cape Verde, West Africa.

Facts: Morais’ career has blossomed since walking in this year’s New York Fashion Week, for designers Ulla Johnson and Tibi. You might find her in spreads with Allure magazine and Vogue Italia.

3. Gizele Oliveira

Age: 24 years old.

From: Brazil.

Facts: Not only is Oliveira a Victoria’s Secret model, but she also runs her own fashion blog Gizele On The Go. With over 450 thousand Instagram followers @giizeleoliveira, she is definitely one to watch. Her resume is filled with New York fashion Week shows including walking for Kith and Cushnie Et Ochs.

4. Amilna Estevao

Age: 18 year olds.

From: Angola, Africa.

Facts: You might recognise Estevao from MAC Cosmetics and Tom Ford campaigns, or from the inserts of Vogue Portugal and Vogue Ukraine. She has also walked for popular designers Trussardi and Brandon Maxwell.

5. Aiden Curtiss

Age: 19 years old.

From: New York.

Facts: Curtiss is the daughter of late supermodel Katoucha “The Peul Princess” Niane. With modelling in the family, Curtiss has graced the runway for fashion houses Miu Miu, Versace and Marc Jacobs. She has also modelled in GAP and Hugo Boss campaigns.

6. Grace Bol

Age: 27 years old.

From: North Sudan.

Facts: You may recognise Bol from the L’Oreal X Balmain lipstick campaign, or seen her face in Vogue Germany and LOVE Magazine. Bol is also a veteran when it comes to runway, as she has walked for Ralph Lauren, Balmain, Kenzo and soon Victoria’s Secret.

7. Mayowa Nicholas

Age: 19 years old.

From: Nigeria.

Facts: Nicholas has starred in campaigns for Miu Miu, Dolce and Gabbana and Saint Laurent. She has a strong runway presence, walking the runway for renowned fashion brands such as Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren.

8. Samile Bermannelli

Age: 19 years old.

From: Brazil.

Facts: Bermannelli may be a Victoria’s Secret newcomer, but she is no newbie when it comes to runway. She has walked for Marchesa, Prabal Gurung, Brandon Maxwell, Hermes and Dolce and Gabbana. She’s even landed herself on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Brazil.

9. Xin Xie

Age: 21 years old.

From: China.

Facts: Xie has plenty of runway experience as she’s walked in gowns for designers Georges Hobeika Haute Couture and Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. She is also a strong editorial model with features in esteemed magazines including Elle, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and Grazia.
