who set the pace in the fashion industry flagged across New York, London, Milan, Copenhagen and Paris.

1.EXTRAVAGANZA
It’s loud and it’s extra without ever becoming tacky. We’ve seen this eccentric vibe at Gucci, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, Erdem, Dolce & Gabbana bringing together frills, big collars, layers and fanciful prints.

2. LIVING CORAL
Pantone announced that Living Coral, a bright coral shade, is the 2019 Color of the Year; “an animated, life-affirming shade of orange, with golden undertones.” Consequently, all those shades, from terracotta to burnt reds, pinkish oranges and peach tones that shine like gold depending on light exposure, have to be on your radar with the trend culminating in its shiny version as it re-emerged on this year’s catwalks. Miuccia Prada went for a flouro approach, Michael Kors featured it in his digital prints while Marc Jacobs opted for a total look with Dior Couture incorporating both options.

3. DUSKY REDS & COPPER
On the same note, dusky red and warm rusty copper tones are still on the up where both garments and hairstyles are concerned.
Versace and Balenciaga have honoured the trend in multiple ways be it prints, leather, vinyl and accessories.

4. SHORTS
They were a big one this summer and it appears biker shorts as well as board shorts will be hot even when the temperature drops in Australia. Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian have made them a trend through Instagram which left high-end fashion houses without much choice other than to dedicate a special place in their collections for the much-desired piece. It’s a tough one to brave as it can draw attention to one’s figure and -of course- imperfections but Prada and Chanel have come up with versions of the sporty item that can be (and have been) donned even on the red carpet. Stella McCartney and Rejina Pyo are also killing it!

5. TAILORED TROUSERS
‘Strict’ lines for pants are a must more than ever for 2019, from couture to ready-to-wear collections making the androgynous look more accessible. The new shapes and pleated designs make this style flatter women that are beyond size 8; several houses chose to feature different and fuller body types on their catwalks this year and it was a-ma-zing! Loewe, Burberry and Givenchy set the tone, with dozens of brands like Ellery, Hugo, PushButton offering a variety of price and style ranges followed suit!

6. CARGO PANTS
Utility or combat trousers have been a favourite on the feed of many Instagram influencers, stars and fashionistas all around the world for at least two years. It all started when the Kardashian and the Hadid sisters brought them back into fashion after two decades. This year the trend made a comeback winning a spot in the new Fendi, Dries Van Noten, Isabel Marant, Balmain, Givenchy and Hermès collections.

7. RUCHED & RUFFLE DRESSES
Brands are giving smooth and body conscious garments new, more interesting shapes and cascades with frills and pleats are here to stay. This trends can be much more forgiving for fabrics and silhouettes, enhancing the right spots and adding volume where needed. romantic take on body-con, and much more forgiving. Givenchy, Preen and Calvin Klein are excellent examples with Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Celine taking a more classic approach.

8. BOWS
They are so in this year and bigger than ever! Emilia Wickstead, Marc Jacobs and Erdem not to mention Preen and Delpozo added them to most of their couture creations which means we will be seeing heaps of bows in our favourite and more affordable fast fashion brands.

9. LEOTARDS
Bodysuits are not just for gymnasts and ballet dancers. Although this sexy piece of clothing has been favoured by women for decades, this year names the likes of Dior, Chanel, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga, have come up with versions that have made us drool over our screens; neon, animal prints and metallics as well as sheer and lace pieces are taking the fashion world by storm!

10. TUXEDOS
The dapperest menswear weapon for women! From Hedi Slimane’s Celine show and Giambattista Valli, to Givenchy and Alexander McQueen, androgynous looks are gaining ground in couture. Even Hermès showcased succumbed to the trend showcasing his own toned-down version.

11. STATEMENT SHOES
2019’s biggest shoe trends are anything but basic. Statement shoes have never really been out of fashion but this year is all about the colours, chains, nets, shapes, logos and attitude. If the runways were any indication, this season is all about going big or going home! Chunky and colourful sneakers are still super hawt and combat boots are holding strong. Logos, structured heels and kitten heels will dominate this year!

12. ASYMMETRICAL SHOULDERS
One-shoulder or drop-shoulder details as seen at Ellery, Isabel Marant, and Prabal Gurung, Self-Portrait and Christopher Kane is a cool-as way to draw attention to your upper body and lengthen your silhouette. This off-balanced trick makes the neck look longer and draws attention to the collar bone. Looks amazing with one earring or pulled back hair; it’s almost like wearing a necklace!

13. BUM-BAG
Another trend that climbed onto the catwalks from the streets the fanny pack is here to stay. It creeped up on us in 2017, took off in 2018 and 2019 will be its culmination.

14. LOW-RISE PANTS
These babies are making a comeback this year and we are losing our minds; the internet is torn between lovers and haters and to be honest we don’t know where we stand or if our bodies are ready but McQueen set the runway on fire with a leather low cut tuxedo and the ball has been rolling since.
I.AM.GIA was the first ready-to-wear to cut it, while Tom Ford stunned with his version of the Canadian Tuxedo and Levi’s has already dropped low-rise cuts just like old times!
