Wise beyond her years, 19-year-old Sonya Koconda was motivated to pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion model when she suffered a near death experience. She explains that she is grateful for having had this experience because it gave her the courage she needed to chase her dreams. Growing up in Australia, Sonya drew creative inspiration from the powerful women she saw on TV such as Wonder Woman and Charlie’s Angels. She cites actress Drew Barrymore and model Georgia Fowler as specific inspirations for her.

This was Sonya’s first photoshoot. Whilst she was nervous to get in front of the camera, she says that her photographer Michaela held her hand throughout, and ‘really gave (her) the confidence (she) needed’.

Sonya describes her style as ‘versatile beauty’. She loves that fashion enables her to go ‘from elegant to powerful, to sassy, poetic and playful’. Her photoshoot had 4 key looks: casual, sassy, bold and sexy. For her casual look, Sonya sported a grey turtleneck with scalloped hemming and blue jeans. Her sassy look incorporated more colour through her tie dye purple and white flared pants. She also wore an unbuttoned white denim jacket off her shoulders with strappy nude heels. For her bold look Sonya wore a simple black dress with a plunging neckline and thigh high splits. We love how she matched her Wonder Woman-esque red ankle boots with her red lipstick. This really ties together the whole look, making her look like a total bombshell. Sonya opted for a high rise black body suit with a plunging neckline for her sexy look. Her black thigh high boots are the hero of this outfit, perfectly accentuating her fabulous legs. We love how confident she looks in this outfit – she looks ready to conquer the world!

Sonya hopes people feel empowered when they look at her photos. She wants people to see them and be inspired to ‘find ways to discover their unique beauty’, just as she has. We feel lucky to have been able to capture Sonya’s unique beauty on camera.
