“Tall, curvy, big haired, brown, bi-racial. It’s taken my whole life to get to a place where I really own and love all of these things about myself. When I was younger I wanted to erase everything that made me different, but now they are things that I proudly express and love fiercly because they truly make me, me. It was through seeing role models in the media who reflected those qualities – proud, loving themselves and forming part of the narrative – that helped me see the beauty in my difference and and find my self worth. I would love to be that for someone else. For that girl sitting at home doubting herself and questioning her difference to see it in shining lights, being celebrated and embraced, so that she might feel like she is deserving of that too.”
