Featured Portfolio | Michael Taylor

By Meg Swain

Michael Taylor came to our Melbourne studio to develop a modelling portfolio. He is currently working towards a career in modelling and acting. In his spare time, he produces music, creates art and works out at the gym daily. He hopes in the future to be able to help his mother financially as a thank you for all the years she made sacrifices for him and his sister. He loves art, music and fashion – but is particularly inspired by music. We loved having him and his unique sense of style in our studio!

Michael’s style is dictated by only himself. He believes that his style offers a glimpse into the person he is, describing fashion as ‘an expression of your personality and a piece of yourself which you show to the world’. He dresses in different ways to shift his internal self, believing that your clothing can change not only how you are perceived, but how you perceive yourself. Michael describes his style as ‘casual and clean’. He says that he wears clothes which are ‘practical, comfortable, simple, timeless, matured, and memorable’. When putting together outfits his number 1 priority is colour harmony and proportion – and you can see this throughout his portfolio.

For his shoot Michael wanted to create looks which were relaxed and expressive with vintage and artisan details. He wore four looks: streetwear, casual, edgy and stripped back. For his streetwear look he paired classic denim jeans and black sneakers with a simple grey t-shirt. We love how he mixed up this look by throwing on a beige roll neck jumper and a relaxed green cap. For his casual look Michael pulled his hair back into a low bun, opting for a well fitted white tee and denim jeans. He showed off his individuality in his edgy look, opting for long black overalls. He buckled and unbuckled the overall straps to create diversity in each shot. He chose to wear the overalls shirtless to reveal his muscles, accessorising this edgy look with a watch. We love how he completely switched up this look by simply wearing a black cardigan over the overalls in some shots. Not only does this create monochromatic layering of the colour black, it makes the overalls look more relaxed in photos. He also accessorised this look with a black hat in some photos. For his stripped back look, Michael posed shirtless. His chose for his hair to have a wet, slick look as this is very on trend right now. This hair look is beloved as it creates drama and looks amazing on camera.

We absolutely loved working with Michael on his shoot and wish him all the best with his modelling and acting aspirations! He has a true talent for modelling and we are looking forward to seeing where he ends up in the future.
