How to use Canva to create a Mood Board

At The Photo Studio we love seeing your vision for your photo shoot. From your Stylist to Hair and Makeup, Photographers, Creative Producers and Assistants we all refer to the references you create to ensure we are meeting your brief for your VIP experience with us.  One of the best ways of showing your vision is trough a Mood Board, but how to create one? Check it out below!

From where should you start?

We look at everything from how you want your hair and make-up to what outfits and accessories you bring to the types of poses, lighting, backdrops, sets and colour palettes you like.

Creating a mood board may seem a little overwhelming, but like your photo shoot, we want it to be a fun experience.  Getting started is easy as 1,2,3!

Firstly you should choose between 2 to 3 looks or outfits from your wardrobe. We recommend one casual look and two differing looks, expressing your unique style with more colour or something a little more moody. What accessories will you wear – glasses, hats, jackets, bags or jewellery? You should consider all of those things when you are creating your Mood Board.

How to use Canvas

Get yourself in the right mindset.

In conclusion, you have to think about how do you want your hair and make-up you want for each look.

For hair, you can have down, up, waves, curls, slick, spiked, you name it, we do it!

For make up, do you want a natural look, smokey eye, dramatic Chanel red lip or something more glowy!

Not sure that is ok, too. You will be able to chat through options with your Stylist during your styling consultation before your photo shoot.

Pro Tip: Check out our Pinterest. We have so many reference images for you to use

What type of vibe do you want your photos to have? Do you like black and white moody images, Hollywood glam, fresh-faced and fun, colourful backdrops? Each of our studios has a range of sets, backdrops, and props, from painted flats to paper rolls, cycloramas to custom windows, and our lighting equipment is state of the art!

The other thing to consider is how you will use the images? For your Modelling Portfolio – to submit to agencies, social media or something special and unique for you and your family.
