Laborer Matthew Rossi’s family had been trying to get him to give modelling a go for years. However, it was not until a friend gave him the push he needed that Matthew thought it might be something worth doing.

“My Nan, like all grandmas, bugged me to do it for years but it wasn’t until a friend of mine said to give it a crack that I decided it was time. ‘You have nothing to lose!’ they said, so I gave it a go.” Says Matthew.

A skater at heart, Matthew says his skate influences have led him to value how important the cut and shape of clothes are in defining your own personal style.

“I’m not too sure how to describe my personal style, but it’s probably a mix of vintage and skate clothes. I do feel it’s important to try and dress to your body type – height, hair style, etc is all critical in making a look your own.”

“I really just take influence from some of my favourite skaters, but also people you just see out and about in Melbourne.”

When it came to styling choices for his shoot, Matthew said he did not give it too much thought. Opting for basic clothes to really let the shots do the talking.

Ever the casual guy, Matthew does not expect too much from when people look at his photos. He is just hopeful they will enjoy looking at the shoot as much as he enjoyed being in it. However, he does hope they might take a little creative flair away from it too.

“I just hope people will look them and think ‘wow, that’s cool’ [laughs], but also maybe take something from what I wear and add it into their personal style and add their own twist to it.”
