14 Easy Ways To Find Your Own Fashion Style

Finding your personal fashion style can feel like an overwhelming process. You want your outside to reflect your inside; an expression and celebration of your personality. Finding your own fashion style can be important to your sense of self. So don’t panic – here’s 14 easy ways to help find your own fashion style.

By Kaley Larner.

1. Find your personal fashion icon

When finding your fashion icon take into consideration what it is that you like about their style. Is it the way they layer pieces together? How they accessorise? Or simply the general style of each piece? Use your style icon not as someone to copy but instead someone to seek inspiration from. Your fashion icon doesn’t have to currently be on trend. There are plenty of vintage style icons such as Aubrey Hepburn and Twiggy.

By considering your lifestyle your fashion style may become clearer to identify. Your style should be practical and easy to apply day to day. If you work in an office your everyday style may be constructed upon the business chic aesthetic. Business attire doesn’t have to be mundane black pencils skirts and simple blouses. Instead opt for a vibrant colour or a different cut of pant such as a fun culotte. If you work outdoors you may need to consider investing in good quality durable designs such as puffer jackets, sweaters and fleece wear.

3. Celebrate your figure

Your body shape is unique. Becoming accustomed to what you feel best in and what flatters your shape can be an empowering experience. Whether you have an hour glass or a pear-shaped figure we all have the ability to wear what we want when we want. Remember your body shape doesn’t define you or prevent you from feeling the best version of yourself.

4. Don’t forget the basics

Working with the basics in your wardrobe is a simple way to create a foundation to your style. Basics such as a pair of black or blue jeans, turtlenecks and t-shirts can allow you to layer your outfits. Once you have your basics organised you can incorporate unique styling into your outfits such as accessories. Starting from the basics can also help define your style such as whether you follow a casual, sophisticated, tom – boy or bohemian style.

5. Find colours that compliment you

If you want to take it a step further try getting your colours read by a trained professional who will assist in finding colours that best work for you. For instance, if you have fair hair and skin, then pastels such as soft pinks or a cameo green may compliment you.

Following fashions trends can be a helpful way to gauge upcoming styles. In order to make a trend your own, the trick is to find your own edge to your outfit! A simple and timeless trend is wearing a graphic tee. Instead of wearing a graphic tee with a pair of basic jeans try pairing the tee with a printed midi skirt or a simple wrap skirt.  From here, you can dress your outfit up with accessories.

When finding your fashion style consider using accessories to liven up your outfits. Accessories can help enhance an outfit and change the overall style of the outfit. If you like to wear all neutral pieces try pairing your outfit with a unique pair of sunglasses or a bold pair of shoes. Try switching up your average sneaker with a platform sneaker. If a bold shoe isn’t your style, try accessorising with bags, jewellery or a chunky belt.
