Drew isn’t your average Marketing Director. He rides around the studio on his skateboard and is the king of in-office pranks. Yet no-body works harder than he does! He’s always making sure the cogs are ticking behind the scenes. We sat down with Drew to find out more about him and to discover how he got where he is today…

How did you end up at TPS?

Well… I actually ended up at The Photo Studio through my Dad, North. He’s been a photographer since he was 21 and opened the Glebe studio back in 2008, when I was in high school. Growing up I wanted to take after my mum and become a journalist or a writer of some kind. So I went to uni and studied Media Communications, then moved to South America for 3 years and worked as a travel writer. When I got back to Sydney my Dad offered me some temp work at the studio, helping him out with the marketing. At first I didn’t think it was for me, but after a few months I got more and more into it and now, 3 years later, I’m part owner of the company and have developed a bit of an obsession for marketing. It’s actually a lot more exciting and creative than I realized.

Your most prized possession?

An old baggy green sweater. It’s my lucky sweater. Whenever I wear it, the girl of my dreams appears or I get an extra scoop of ice cream or something. For some reason good things just happen to me in this sweater. I bought it for $3.50 in the Salvo’s when I was 17.

Best place in Melbourne to go for a drink?

Yikes, there are so many good place to go for a drink in Melbourne! I hate to say it, but Sydney nightlife really sucks compared to Melbourne and I know because I’m a Sydney-Sider! I love going to Rum Diaries (Brunswick St) on a Thursday. They have a live blues band and serve the best dark and stormy with spicy home-made ginger beer. Delish!

Would you rather constantly have the feeling that you need to sneeze or get woken up by a Taser every morning?

I would choose the taser… Now that I think of it, that’s not a bad idea. Say goodbye to your snooze button – an alarm clock for go-getters!

How do you define success?

That’s a good question.. For me success is being brave and determined enough to turn your dreams into a reality. It doesn’t matter whether your dream is to become a famous Hollywood actor or to buy a modest house and raise a loving family. Everybody has a different dream and therefore success looks different to everybody. I respect people who get off the couch and make shit happen. I once read that “successful people come to a decision quickly and change their mind slowly. Unsuccessful people come to a decision slowly and change their mind quickly”.

If you were stranded on an island and could only bring three items, what would they be and why?

Haha, it’s actually my dream to be stranded on an island so I’ve thought about this a lot!

  1. Axe – so I can build a house, make tools and hunt for food!
  2. Flint – to make fire and smoke signals.
  3. Pen and paper – so I could write messages in a bottle for my loved ones.

Who’s your ideal dinner date, and why?

I can’t think of any ‘one’ ideal dinner date… I mean I could say one of my heroes like Jack Kerouac or Ayrton Senna or some mega babe Victoria Secret model, but really, who’s to say that the dinner would be anything special? The best dates are spontaneous, so hypothesizing is pointless.
